LATAM transporta a Ruana gratuitamente entre os aeroportos de Marabá e Guarulhos

LATAM announced today, May 19th, that a young three-year-old female jaguar (Panthera onca) was just transported free of charge from Marabá (PA) to Guarulhos (SP) through LATAM's Charitable Flight program.

The action was carried out in partnership with BioParque Vale Amazônia, the São Paulo Zoo, and the Brazilian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZAB). It also had authorization from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), as part of the National Action Plan for Species Conservation (PAN).

The jaguar, named Ruana, was born in captivity at the BioParque Vale Amazônia itself, in Parauapebas (PA), where she has lived since she was a cub. Her parents are originally from the Cerrado biome, and her brother had already been transferred to another institution in São Paulo for a similar operation. The transport to the São Paulo Zoo aims at conserving genetic diversity and the responsible management of the species.

Through air transport, LATAM significantly reduced the animal's travel time, ensuring greater comfort and safety. The trip, which would have taken at least two days by land (considering necessary breaks and care along the route), was completed in about 4 hours with the airline's support.

In its 13 years of existence, LATAM's Solidarity Plane program, in partnership with other organizations, has transported over 868 tons of cargo and 4.6 thousand animals for free in Brazil.

In addition to the 282 million COVID-19 vaccines transported to all Brazilian states, the program completed the mark of over 200 tons of donations (food baskets, water, disposable diapers, blankets, among other items) and 130 volunteers (doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and firefighters) transported for free during the Rio Grande do Sul crisis in 2024.

The Solidarity Plane is connected with the Shared Value pillar of LATAM Group's Sustainability Strategy and makes the company's logistical expertise and connectivity available throughout South America. Currently, the Solidarity Plane partners with various institutions in Brazil, such as Amigos do Bem, Movimento União BR, Gastromotiva, Por1Sorriso, Instituto Rodrigo Mendes, Amazone-se, and SOS Mata Atlântica.
