Founded three years ago by dental surgeon Felipe Rossi, the NGO Por 1 Sorriso brings together volunteer professionals from all over the country.
With a mission to bring more health and self-esteem to neglected regions and citizens in Brazil and around the world, Por 1 Sorriso is a Non-Governmental Organization that offers types of dental treatments for free to those who cannot afford even the simplest procedures.
Felipe Rossi, founder and current president of the NGO, says the idea for the project emerged in late 2015, when he first visited Africa, participating as a volunteer in a mission for another Non-Governmental Organization. Today, he also coordinates the Dental division of this NGO.
Felipe returned to Brazil very impacted by the situation he witnessed in the African country. In April 2016, he returned with the Africa Mission and came back to Brazil fully convinced that he needed to do something much bigger within his profession. That's when the NGO Por1Sorriso ("For1Smile") was born, which has already carried out missions in over 10 Brazilian states and in Africa. “We envision reaching over 20 million people who have never seen a dentist, and since our inception, we have already performed over 23,000 dental procedures, impacting a similar number of underprivileged individuals who receive complete treatments free of charge.”
In addition to being president and founder of Por1Sorriso and Odontology Coordinator for the NGO Missão África, Felipe Rossi is also a specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology, a member of the Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Dentistry, and a professor at Grupo Dental Trends.
The goal is to offer complete treatments, and the fact that the services provided are free does not mean they are of low quality. Felipe explains that the NGO carries out modern dental work, from the office, offering services ranging from endodontics (with rotary instruments) to digital X-rays, absolute isolation, and restorations using the best resin brands on the market. “We make it a point to always offer the best for these people who are on the margins of society, often completely forgotten.”, completes the surgeon.
The locations for carrying out the missions are chosen through contacts with other projects and NGOs, which identify those most in need of dental and medical care. This is because Por1Sorriso initially provided dental treatments, but today it also offers clinical medical procedures.
Even with the grandeur of his work, Felipe assures that the NGO receives no governmental financial support. The help to maintain the missions comes from companies in the dentistry sector, which assist with the donation of materials and instruments, as well as donations from individuals who also work in the dental field. “Seeking to take new flight to promote the cause and provide positive encounters, Quinelato and other companies have helped us reach the places we want, contributing quality services by bringing the best and safest to those who do not have access. We thank all our partners for their respect, trust, care, and support for these incredible partnerships.”, Complete the marketing staff of the NGO Por1 Sorriso.
