The NGO Por1sorriso, created by Felipe Rossi, goes beyond just distributing toothbrushes and toothpaste, making a difference by offering a complete service. This service ranges from examinations to identify each patient's problems to performing all necessary procedures, all completely free of charge!
Having good oral health is essential for a healthy life, however, not everyone has the financial means to do so. In fact, according to estimates from the Federal Council of Dentistry, about 20 million Brazilians have never been to the dentist, with the main reason being a lack of money.
That's exactly why dentist Felipe Rossi, in 2019, decided to create the ONG For1smile, offering dental treatment to underserved populations both inside and outside Brazil. Por1sorriso has brought not only new smiles but also hope to thousands of people who otherwise would not be able to treat their oral health.
“The goal is to provide dental office-level care in communities that lack access to this service.”, said the dentist to R7.
The NGO's actions extend beyond national borders, also taking place in some African countries, such as Kenya and Mozambique, and although the organization's database has over 4,000 registered volunteers, the reality on the ground is different. “There are costs that people have to bear, and because of this, many people end up giving up on going to the event. It's always very hard to form the team.”, explains Felipe.
Not only distributing toothbrushes and toothpaste, this organization stands out by offering a complete service, from examinations to identify each patient's problems to carrying out all necessary procedures, prioritizing those in pain and in need of dentures. “We do everything: root canals, fillings, dentures,” the dentist exemplifies.
Most of your funding comes from two companies that belong to Felipe's personal friends and, more recently, from Colgate, with direct donations also being possible through site, where you can choose a monthly amount ranging from R$ 10 to R$ 200 or make a bank deposit of any amount.
