Projeto Amazone-se e ONG Por 1 Sorriso levam serviços de saúde a ribeirinhos de Aveiro
Dental care, consultations, and imaging exams are among the services that will be offered from May 18th to 22nd in the Cametá community.

Starting this Sunday (18th) through May 22nd, residents of the riverside region of Aveiro, in western Pará, will have access to health services during the joint expedition of the Amazone-se Project and the NGO Por 1 Sorriso. The actions will be concentrated in the Cametá community, where a large structure has been built throughout this week to accommodate health professionals and for medical care.
This time, in addition to medical consultations in various specialties, imaging, and medication dispensing, dental services will be offered. For this, 24 dentists from the NGO Por 1 Sorriso will be participating in the expedition. Including nursing staff, doctors, and dentists, there will be 56 healthcare professionals from Amazone-se and the NGO Por 1 Sorriso, plus 10 professionals made available by the Aveiro Department of Health.
The coordinator of the Amazone-se Project, Carolina Machado, told g1 that the team is happy and eager for this new experience in Aveiro.
“We are very happy for our second experience in Cametá; we are going with pediatricians, a dermatologist, a gynecologist, and also dentists from the NGO Por 1 Sorriso. We will start seeing patients on the 18th, and the expectation is high because in August 2024 we had over 1139 appointments. So, the idea is that we can beat that number. But it's not just about beating the number; it's about maintaining the essence of Amazone-se, which is providing care with humanization, eye contact, and everything we can build collaboratively,” he highlighted.
On Wednesday (14th), the Municipal Secretary of Health, Hiroito Tabajara, oversaw the transport of medicines and equipment that will be used during the expedition.
“In addition to medications, we brought an ultrasound machine from Semsa, which will be used by the Amazone-se team, who will bring three more machines for imaging. In the community, some tents are being prepared for the medical services. In addition, three tons of equipment from Amazone-se and the NGO Por 1 Sorriso have arrived and are already being assembled,” said the Secretary of Health.
The equipment assembly is carried out by a technician, who is assisted by an electrician provided by the city hall. The electrician will remain in the community for the entire expedition to make the necessary connections and handle any emergencies related to electricity. In the area of oral health, the expedition will offer services ranging from dental cleaning to the fabrication of prosthetics. Fourteen dental chairs were set up on-site for the procedures.
“This is a very important partnership for our municipality. The City Hall provides logistical support, our local team, medicines and supplies, and infrastructure. The community welcomes the team, straw tents are set up for the consultations, and the Project and the NGO Por 1 Sorriso provide their equipment, medicines, and highly qualified professionals to carry out the services,” highlighted Hiroito Tabajara.
